I hooked it up to Ubuntu, and occasionally?I can see the disk show up "disks" (gnome-disk-utility), and when I do, I can?see the partition table, and how much data is used in the partition. I attempted a ddrescue, but the drive disappeared before ddrescue was even 1% complete. Sometimes when I plug it in, it doesn't even show up at all. I think that this thing is toast and will require a clean room / physical data recovery. I explained to the client that this would be pretty expensive. Sounds like she's still interested, as she asked how much it'll cost (even though she knows its expensive). Anyone in Chattanooga do this sort of thing, or will I need to send the drive off to Atlanta or somewhere? - David -- David WhiteFounder & CEO Develop CENTS? Usually it's colder. Listen or touch disk to see if it's spinning. As a prophylactic for the disk, some sellers (newegg) now sell a recovery guarantee for certain disks. (Not sure who does the actual warranty but it does cost extra.) If it works sometimes, you may have a chance to save the client $$$. I have stuck some disks in a refrigerator overnight to get them to work, but it could be counterproductive. YMMV! Never kick or impact your computer when it's running! (G's are bad for spinners!)
