I have a space next to my oven where I'd like to put a small (about 12 bottles) wine fridge. (I have checked with a temp gun to make sure that the outside of the over does not get warm with the over at 450 for 45 minutes.) I'd like to build a 3-sided (right side, left side and top) to go around the fridge AND to put a piece of quartz on when I get my counters redone. The space is roughly 17"w x 30"h x 27"d. Obviously, I need the exact dimensions of the fridge to know how big to make the enclosure. I did ask one woodworker about the project. He said I should use oak veneered plywood. I have no idea if this is a good idea or a bad idea. I'd be happy to pay someone to make this but the one woodworker I was referred to said it'd cost $600. I thought that was pretty steep. Am I wrong?
Should I consider making it myself? I have never made anything out of wood, other than a stick to roast marshmallows on. :-) Will I end up with something unstable and cheap looking, if I build it myself? I've looked at the free plans on a few websites but, wince this seems to be a rather odd thing to build, I haven't found any. Advice? Thanks.
