4 days in; my recap so far. Surprising! PSMF

Hey Friends! As posted earlier, I started PSMF 4 days ago and wanted to share where I'm at so far. I've done keto on and off with good results before, but I wanted to try something new this time (and something faster to kickstart my weight-loss).

Starting Weight:170lbs

Female, 29, 5'6"

Day 1

Went exactly as planned. I meal-prepped on Sunday and had a whole refrigerator full of containers that were "one meal each" which made things SUPER HELPFUL. One meal consisted of 25g of protein and a sometimes a vegetable side. Examples:

  • 4oz of shredded chicken breast, 1 cup of broccoli

  • 4 oz of sliced eye of round (lean beef) and 1 cup of brussles sprouts

  • 5 slices of deli turkey in portioned ziploc baggies

  • 1 scoop of carb-free protein powder in a shaker with no liquid (liquid added when I was ready to drink it)

Per Lyle's plan, I'm allowed 125g of protein per day, so thats FIVE of these little protein meals. I can mix and match whatever, as long as I make my goal of 5 protein "helpings" plus my vegetables. I also take a multivitamin in the morning and the recommended fish oil at meals (pill style).

Day one started good but I got hungry as the day went on. I knew it was a mental game, so I pressed on. No cheats. Protein achieved. Fat on target (20ish grams) and carbs were over 20g, but it was mostly broccoli with high-fiber so I didn't feel bad about it. About 800-900 calorie day, a little high.

Day 2

Same thing- meals are already prepped and waiting in the fridge and I can just grab what I want. I started eating the vegetables in my meals first (I don't know why) and this worked against me. The veggies filled me up fast and I could not finish the protein in my meals. I struggled to meet my protein goal by the end of the day, and ended up drinking a shake of 2 scoops protein just to meet my goal. No cheats.

Day 3

3 days in, the idea of hunger changed for me; I will try to describe what I'm talking about. There were times when my stomach was obviously empty and grumbling and being "hungry", but the message of "HOLY SHIT TIME TO EAT SOMETHING ASAP" does not connect to my brain. I logically know that I am hungry, I had eaten only ~300 calories by noon. But the instinct, the drive, the craving, the NEED to find something to fill that void is not there. This happened to me frequently while on classic keto. This is the time (for me) when the diet goes on auto-pilot. Note: getting to this point really takes having your meals LOCKED DOWN for the first few days. If you have "wishy washy" days and cheat meals already, you'll always be hungry.

I struggled to eat anything, honestly. I would stare at my meals in the fridge and decide to make a cup of tea instead. I still attempted my "meals" and kept eating, but didn't finish full meals. This is when I switched to eating PROTEIN FIRST in my meals. Protein gets priority, and if I'm not in the mood for food- there is NO WAY I'm going to eat both chicken AND broccoli. Fish oil pills have become my friend because I can just swallow it and not think about it. No flavor, no cooking, just instant calories and no effort. Day 3 I probably ate 600 calories, max.

Day 4 (today) 167.9lbs -2 lbs

I didn't even bring food to work today because I knew I wasn't going to eat it. I brought, instead, a protein shake of 2 servings of protein and some fish oil. I sipped on my shake during work and didn't feel hungry or anything. After work I ate 2 servings of lean beef (mostly because I don't want my food spoiling in the fridge!) and really forced it down. I put mustard and hot sauce on it- hey whatever works. I'm getting ready for bed now and I am still one serving short on protein. I might just call it quits for today and try to get a little extra protein tomorrow. I'm averaging about 600-700 calories per day. Ketostix are constantly positive.

Energy is good. I'm not drained or exhausted like some people have said. I've been doing some light walking outside but I would call it moderate at best. We will see how Friday and the weekend goes!

TLDR: Lost 2 lbs. I'm not hungry anymore. Mustard + hot sauce on everything.
