Started watching the new series a couple weeks ago, just finished 2nd season at a friend's house, no internet for a few days, got back an hour ago.
I got inspired to make a sonic screwdriver, but it'd be almost lame to just make a regular one. I know a thing or two about electronics, some of my friends too, I guess that'd cover the light and sounds, but it still wouldn't be enough.
So I thought of how the Doctor uses it a lot to unlock stuff. What if I put magnets near the light? Maybe I could make locks made of wood/plastic on the outside, but that you could slide it open with a magnet. I mean, it wouldn't be the most secure thing in the world (people have refrigerators, refrigerators have magnets), but they would be clueless on how to open it, while also giving the screwdriver something to do. I also want it to be an electromagnet inside the screwdriver, so it only works when the button is pressed, but if that drains the batteries too much, better use regular ones.
I was already thinking of how the use would damage the blue light plastic/glass/whatever, when I realized on a quick search that there are multiple versions. Haven't checked closely to avoid spoilers, don't know how many there are, nor payed much attention on what they looked like.
I'll probably keep this project on hold at least until I catch up, but I want suggestions. Have you seen something like this? Or maybe those locks? What version should I make it? Any feature you think that should be there aswell? (was thinking of putting an actual screwdriver head hidden on the other end)
Oh and awesome series, at least past season 1.
tl;dr: sonic screwdriver that opens specific locks.
