First thing: I checked the tourism sub, sorted by top posts and everything, and I still have some questions.
So I'm thinking about going to Dublin for 5 days in February because we have a 3 day weekend in the US, and I've never traveled alone. I can fly for free. My mom works for an airline, and I really do realize how lucky I am. You speak English, you're friendly, you have a lively night life, and I've heard awesome things.
Still, I have a few questions:
Should I stay in a hostel? This isn't a financial question. I can probably swing a cheap hotel room, but am I actually going to meet anyone? I'm a social person stateside, but in my other travels around Europe meeting the locals isn't always easy. Opinions?
If not a hostel, where should I stay? Hotel, couch surfing, or otherwise?
Should I even go to Dublin in February, or should I take my wanderlust elsewhere?
Is the weather more like a drunk and lonely spinster pissing in her refrigerator, or an unbaptised orphan crying in purgatory? Will that involve a nice rain slicker or the warmest, puffiest coat I can find?
Hurling. I know it's a thing. I know that it somehow resembles rugby. I understand that some of you are probably upset that I just made that comparison. Can I go see someone do the hurling? Is it a thing in February? Do I need to prepare myself for the possibility of witnessing someone's violent murder? If I can see a match, for whom should I cheer, why, and who will want to murder me for cheering for that team?
What am I missing? What should I do in Dublin for five days? Music and art are what I do with most of my time. Museums of all kinds are welcome. I'm not putting my lips anywhere near that fucking piss covered stone. I love Irish food.
