The police still haven't found Ennis or Mando. I didn't open the pizza box I received on the doorstep the other day. It's just sitting in my refrigerator. I don't want to open it, I don't know what's inside. I've just been ignoring it.
I couldn't sleep that night. I could hear whispers and cracks throughout the night. I stayed logged out of Skype so I wouldn't get another phone call. Nothing happened that night. Not until the next day.
I called out of work because I couldn't handle going in. They fired me for missing too many days. I didn't care, all I cared about was finding where my friends were at this point. Bote sat at the kitchen table on her phone all day. I asked her if she had anything else to do. She said no.
I got angry and smacked the phone out of her hands. It shattered against the kitchen tile floor. She stood up and yelled at me again.
“Two of my friends are missing and you don't even fucking care!” I screamed back.
“They're not missing! Mando is in Mexico!” She said.
“But where is Ennis?” I said.
“I...I don't know...” She said.
“Exactly.” I said. I sat down and buried my face in my hands. She came over and comforted me.
“Hey, I'm sorry about what's going on. I want to help you.” She said.
“You wanna help? Help me find Ennis. Help me find Eiichu Pizza.” I said.
“Okay. Okay, sure.” She said. “We can find them. Where should we look first?”
“I have no idea.” I said. “I tried calling them but...their car came out of no where.”
“We could try downtown. There know all the pizza places down there.” Bote said.
“We might as well try.” I said.
Bote drove me downtown while I just looked out the window. I thought about Mando and Ennis and what they were probably going through right now. Finally, Bote parked and we got out of the car.
“If Eiichu pizza exists, these people will know about it.” She said.
“It exists.” I said.
“Okay, okay.” She said.
I started by asking a few people, they didn't know anything. Bote didn't even talk to anyone, she just followed me around with the same worried expression on her face. I was worried too, of course, but at least I was trying to make progress. I knew Mando and Ennis had to be nearby, Eiichu pizza had to be nearby.
I looked back at Bote. She was just standing and looking around. Fucking useless. I cut down an ally and left her behind. I could hear her calling my name, trying to find me, but I hid behind a dumpster. I couldn't let her hold me down anymore. I breathed easy as she passed right by the ally. Then I looked ahead of me.
I saw him.
The delivery boy, crouch on all fours, staring right at me.
“HEY!” I screamed.
I shot up and bolted towards him. He ran the opposite direction down another ally. I followed him closely. It was dark down this ally. It was a dead end with no one around. I felt cold and uneasy. I could hear him
“Hey, you lost, buddy?” I heard someone shout. I looked behind me. It looked like a homeless guy in a big coat and beanie hat. He had a dirty, scruffy beard.
“Not lost, trying to find someone.” I said.
“Ahhh, well you ain't gonna find anyone down here. 'Sept little old me. This is satan's waiting room.” He said. “HOLY SHIT!”
I turned back around to face a sick twisted monster. It reeked of spoiled garlic, and stood tall over me. It charged at me, but I punched it in the stomach. It's exterior was soft yet crunchy...like a breadstick. I started beating it into the ground, I didn't show any mercy.
“No, wait!” The homeless man shouted. I felt him grab my arm. I punched him across his face and he hit the wall. I turned back to the monster.
“WHERE IS MANDO? WHERE IS ENNIS?” I screamed.
“What are you talking about...?” The homeless man whimpered from behind me.
“I'M NOT TALKING TO YOU!” I shouted back. I punched the breadstick monster one more time before he just vanished into thin air. I stood over nothing.
I looked over to the groaning homeless man. His face was covered in blood. I must have hit him pretty hard, I was angry. Still, I couldn't just leave him like that. I dragged his body over to a dumpster and put him inside. Hopefully he would be okay in there. I met up with Bote again.
“Where did you go, Nick?” She said.
“Bote, I found something. I monster or something, the delivery boy was there, I beat him up but he vanished, I...” I said.
“Nick, let's just go home. You need to calm down.” She said.
For some reason a wave of peace went through me.
“Yeah. Yeah, okay.” I said.
We went home and relaxed. I thought about opening that pizza box but I didn't. I went to bake some chicken tenders but when I opened our oven in smelled terrible. I decided to just go to order from Pizza Hut instead. And, no, I didn't tip them.
I went to bed thinking every thing was okay. I was on my laptop when I realized I didn't know anything about Bote. I decided to google her name. What I found made me drop my laptop onto my bed. My fingers trembled, I couldn't even think. I found out that Bote...meant Delivery Boy in German.
I don't know what to do. Bote is still acting nice and doesn't realize I know she must be working for Eiichu. I bet she murdered Mando and Ennis. I'm not going to the police. I'll figure out what to do to her.
