Winter is settling in here, which made me wonder - Why do we heat our homes, and cool our refrigerators against that heat? Can't we just pipe in some cold air through a direct duct from outside? AskEngineers

Wouldn't a simple heat exchanger do the trick, and save people a lot of energy/money?
