Rise and Shine 2.0 GetOutOfBed

Rise and Shine 2.0

My first ever post. Fuck yeah. And I want it to be a good one, so here we go.

In this post I want to explain to you the only method that sticked with me when it comes to early rising. I could talk 2 paragraphs about how I've been an night owl for whole my life so you guys would feel connected to me and 'buy-in' but hey, it's your life, you think you can be a better person by rising early and that is all the motivation you should need. This method I made is based on the book The Power of Habit, this reddit post and my own tweaks. So here it is, my method, RISE AND SHINE 2.0:

What you will need:

  • A smartphone

  • A QR code

  • A timer

  • Coffee maker/grilled cheese sandwichmaker, whatever.

  • A bottle of water

1. Setting your alarm.

Download the app Sleep for Android, set your alarm. Go to sleep preferably a minimum seven hours before this. Put your phone in airplane mode while charging and put it next to your pillow. For a 'Really awake?-CAPTCHA set it on QR-code. Protip: make your waking sound a happy sound. Rising should be a happy experience and not sound like the Russians/ISIS invading your country. I use the pokemon intro. It makes my grumpy morning face a bit smiling, and after all, who doesn't want to be the very best?

2. Turning off the alarm

When the alarm goes off, the only way to turn it off is by scanning the QR code which you should've programmed. This code is attached to a half a liter bottle of cold water in your fridge. Americans, half a liter is 16.9 ounces. Whatever. Drink the whole bottle. It should be a little effort. This will give you time downstairs, preferably in front of the full lit refrigerator. The water is to hydrate you but also to break the previous habit loop as explained in the previously mentioned, Reddit post.

3. THE REWARD, FUCK YEAHHHH

So after all this excruciating pain, you deserve a little something something. This is where the timer and grilled cheese sandwich maker come in. The timer, is set the night before on the same time as your alarm, connected to the sandwich maker with already a made sandwich in it. So if you dont get out of bed at all, your alarm won't go off and you have your kitchen stinking like a old coal mine. But this will never happen again. Eat the sandwich. Be happy. Be proud. You can use a coffee maker if you are more of a coffee person. the extra caffeine will ease the waking process even more.

Don't procrastinate, install the app, print a QR, do the prep when you're in a mental higher state of consciousness.

It takes a while for a habit to stick but this method helped me a lot. I hope it will for you guys. Let me know in the comments below.

optional Protip2: Get a bottle of caffeine pills, they're cheap as fuck and if you pop one with the water drinking it gets your body a little boost.
