  • A public university that opened in 1889 (1798)

  • Located in Clemson, South Carolina which is near the western tip of SC. It is a 6hr 45min car trip that takes you through Lexington, KY down to Knoxville, TN and over towards Asheville, NC to Greenville, SC and down. Population of 13,905




  • Rural campus of 17,000 acres (vs Urban combined 640 acres)




  • Coached by Dabo Swinney who has a record of 54-25




  • Swinney's wife was raised in a mixed Louisville vs Kentucky family, so he is very familiar with both programs.




  • Clemson has an all-time bowl record of 18-18




  • 1 National title (1981)




  • 18 Conference titles (14 ACC)




  • Play in Memorial Stadium with a capacity of 81,473 and features natural grass.




  • Colors are Orange and Regalia(purple)




  • Mascot is the Tiger

  • Mascot is a direct result from inheriting football from Auburn




  • John Heisman the Heisman trophy namesake coached Clemson to an undefeated season in 1900.




  • Howard's rock is named for coach Frank Howard who started the tradition of rubbing the rock before running down the hill at home games.

  • After probation by both the NCAA and ACC were over Clemson would win 3 straight conference championships before facing penalties again in 1990.

  • Local attractions include the Blue Ridge Mountains, the South Carolina Botanical Garden, Fort Hill Plantation (Calhoun), Bob Campbell Geology Museum, and the reservoir Lake Hartwell.




  • Clemson traditions include Howard's Rock, the rock rubbing and running down the hill that is a famous mainstay of Tigers home games.




  • Rivalries include South Carolina where Clemson holds a 65-42-4 lead. Georgia Tech where GT leads 49-26-2. NC State where Clemson leads 52-29-1. FSU where FSU leads 20-8. Georgia who leads the series 41-18-4. Auburn who leads 34-13-2.




  • Clemson is 0-0-0 against Louisville all-time. Saturday will feature the first meeting between new division foes.




  • Clemson has some Baseball success, reaching several CWS. About once every four years for the last 3 decades.

  • A lot of Golf tradition. Several alum have played golf professionally and they have a 2003 title.

Side Note I was in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl and so I was naturally in a bar watching Clemson upset LSU surrounded by LSU fans and it was some of the most fun I have ever had.
