Newbie question about sauerkraut fermentation

I made some sauerkraut for the first time using the methods I found on here - after it’s fermented and it’s done - I put it in the refrigerator but do I need to keep the weight on it ? Can I just take the weight off and store it in a mason jar with a regular lid ? Thanks friends !
