The recent and excellent story The Jack reminded me of The Delights of Rax, and other stories where a downed ship leads to humans and xenos on an unknown planet and they need to survive.
I would like to read more stories like those, with that "getting to know each other while surviving" feel.
I love the versions with the initial distrust like The Jack and Rax, but there's other ways for the story to go, like The First Human that punches you with feels at the end. (not that Rax doesn't either)
In addition to whatever y'all recommend, there are two stories that I can't figure out what combo to google to pull them up. Both are loosely in the crash landing genre iirc.
First is where xenos crash on/near a human farmer's (or just lives alone?) property, are 8-9 feet tall, insectoid, and he ends up clearing out his refrigerator of the food they like to eat. (leaving him with just greens or just meat?)
Second had 3-5 humans and one? xeno and they'd either crashed, or missed a landing or something. The party had either electronics or knowledge to know which direction to go towards the nearest city, and the landscape was ?Ireland? or some nordic/fjord kinda place? In the end, the xeno was relieved to return to civilization, but the humans thought it was all good fun and would even do it again, minus the mishap that triggered it. The author I think used a phrase that described that kind of camping/adventure and titled the post with it. Bush something, something bush?
sorry if that's all really vague.. memory is a fickle bitch sometimes.
