ELI5: Why some milk/whipping cream packs have no closing lid? explainlikeimfive

I just don't get it.

If there's leftover, I could 1) easily close it without worrying because the lid would 2) prevent any refrigerator smell to get seeped into the milk/whipping cream and I don't have to 3) grab myself a pair of scissors.

Plus, 4) it'll pour better.

So why?

edit: heavy sigh, I just wanted a genuine explanation
