I am helping my older parents out. They live 400 miles away, so much of this is remote.
My parents are looking to install a small natural gas backup generator at their home to power some essential circuits (a few general lighting, a few outlets, refrigerator, sump pump. They are in their 70s, so an automatic generator is best for them as they get older.
They had a local company (very highly regarded in the local area and they have used them in the past) come out and give them a quotefor a Briggs & Stratton 8kW natural gas generator and automatic transfer switch http://ift.tt/2nfGtvj. The Generator and transfer switch run about $2000 from multiple sources. The company wanted to charge them $6800 total, for the equipment, wiring and natural gas connections. The gas line and main electrical panel are about 5' away from each other, so installation should be fairly easy.
I was thinking that price was extremely high, and I am trying to locate some other companies for them to get a quote from, but figured I would get a feel on pricing here from those who have installed a natural gas generator before.
