Three Week Old Yeast Cake Homebrewing

I racked a Kolsch to a keg about three weeks ago. I left a little bit of beer on top of the yeast cake and put the lid back on. Put the bucket in my refrigerator at fifty degrees. Can I make a starter out of part of this cake? My LHBS did not have Kolsch or German Ale yeast and I want to brew a gose tomorrow (pitch yeast in about three days after lacto has kicked in). Thanks in advance.

Edit: opened the bucket and it does not smell funky or have any strange look to it.
