Refrigerator is freezing things - I change the setting and then the freezer doesn't freeze things enough appliancerepair

It's a unit where the fridge is on the bottom and the freezer is on the top. Manufacturer is HotPoint, but I can't find a model # anywhere.

I am in an apartment (renting), and the refrigerator either freezes everything, or the freezer isn't cold enough when I lower the setting. Any advice on what I can do?
