An old Japanese 2 prong apartment. Want to remove ground "hum" from monitor and stereo. electricians

As the title says I live in a somewhat old (even modern aparment have that issue though) apartment (so I don't own it and never the old lady would let me change outlets in my computer room).

As some people may know here there is no ground in the outlet except for high voltage equipment (refrigerator and air conditionning for example). So in my "computer room I am stuck with 2 prongs outlet. Most equipment that would benefit from an actual ground have these kinds of connector.

My setup have the PSU of the computer, the monitor (with audio out) and my small lamp stereo with these prong coming out. I wonder how I could ground these 3 properly.

The outlet with the ground is no sooo far so if I get a wire to join the same screw and the ground of the fridge then join a ground terminal like this would I have a safe setup free of "hums" like I want?

If yes, is there any numbers I need to take into account when choosing the wire and terminal ?

Finding better solutions by thinking inside the box TheRedPill

TLDR In my previous post, I talked about how the journey is more important than the destination. Each journey teaches us how to find solutions to problems in our path. In this post, I will teach you a practical method to finding these solutions. New ideas/solutions are created by combining old idea/solutions. TRP is often called a toolbox. This post will teach you how to use these tools more effectively.

Cut and Paste

In my previous post, I talked about how The journey is more important than the destination, it is only by experiencing can we learn how to overcome obstacles. In this post, I will teach you a practical method to finding solutions while on your journey. I will also talk about going on an adventure where you will enjoy having sex with random women with large mammary glands; I also will provide graphic details of these sexual trysts. Sex sells. Ok, I lied to you, but you can use the information from this post on how to increase your chances of having sex with women with large mammary glands if you desire, or you can use it to improve your odds of success in all of your endeavors. Learning how to overcome obstacles comes from thinking inside the box.

Limits increase creativity

People will repeat things that sound good, even if they defy logic. A friend asks me for help with a problem, I instinctively reply, we need to think outside the box. That feels good; it conjures up images of a freethinker, a rebel, someone who isn't controlled by the system. As Dan Ariely the author of Predictably Irrational, Revised and Expanded Edition: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions the only thing predictable about human beings is we are irrational. After giving that advice, I would then find a solution by thinking inside the box.

Every time I had a problem, first I would make a list of all the resources available, this list would also include abilities. Then I would figure out how to combine these items or abilities to form a solution. It is the same method used by the NASA engineers in the movie Apollo 13 to find a way to rescue the stranded astronauts. Why does thinking inside the box work better than thinking outside the box?

The answer is the human mind likes to frame things. I talk a lot about framing and reframing. Here is an example of why framing works. First, make a list of all objects that you can think of that are the color white. Now, make a list of all items in your refrigerator that are white. Possibly the second list might be longer, even though the are fewer items in your fridge that are white compared to the entire universe. Regardless you discovered that it was a lot easier to compile the second list, that is because you had a frame, you could picture the items in your fridge.

Where did I get the brilliant idea I should think inside the box? Like all ideas, I stole it, in this case from the book Inside the Box: A Proven System of Creativity for Breakthrough Results, where did he get his brilliant idea? Why he stole it also. The question then, is how do we create new ideas?

All new ideas are combinations of old ideas.

There are not more than five musical notes, yet the combinations of these five give rise to more melodies than can ever be heard. There are not more than five primary colors, yet in combination, they produce more hues than can ever be seen. There are not more than five cardinal tastes, yet combinations of them yield more flavors than can ever be tasted. In battle, there are not more than two methods of attack--the direct and the indirect; yet these two in combination give rise to an endless series of maneuvers. The direct and the indirect lead on to each other in turn. It is like moving in a circle--you never come to an end. Who can exhaust the possibilities of their combination? The Art Of War by Sun Tzu

The idea of combining old concepts together to create new ideas is not a new idea. Sun Tzu, 2500 years ago, gives examples of this. The principles of warfare in his book can be combined to create infinite combinations of new ideas. The things required for a solution are usually in the immediate area; that is why when you hear of a good new idea, you kick yourself and say why did I think of it? Often the ideas or inventions which have the biggest impact on our lives are quite simple, here are some examples.

  • Wheels on a suitcase - instead of carrying your suitcase, put wheels on it and pull it. Suitcases and trunks have existed for hundreds of years, wheels for thousands of years, yet it is a modern invention.

  • Iced tea - combine tea with ice. Nestle makes billions distributing this product around the world.

  • motorcycle - have an internal combustion engine power a bicycle.

Look around you, see how items or ideas were created from other ideas. But when combining ideas, you should be aware of this.

The sum of all the parts does not always equal the whole.

Despite being past middle age, I still enjoy playing in puddles. Society frowns upon adults who behave like children. The key is discretion if caught come up with a good explanation. Let's play in puddles and see if we can learn something. All you need is a handful of pebbles, all approximately the same size and of course a pool of water.

Drop one pebble into the puddle, observe the ripples created. After the ripples have subsided, drop two rocks simultaneously into the pool approximately a foot apart, later you can experiment with the distance. Observe how the ripples collide, you should see a standing wave where its height is greater than the sum of the two waves. At the same time, you will observe a stationary trough where the combination of the ripples cancels out. You can experiment with different numbers of pebbles etc.

The point of the experiment is to show the total does not always equal the sum of the parts. It can be greater than or less than. It is self-evident why one would want more significant effect but why would you want to have a lesser effect?

Nitroglycerin was explosive, which is more powerful than gunpowder, much cheaper to manufacture. It just requires glycerine, which is a byproduct of soap manufacture and nitric acid. Unfortunately, it is very unstable; the slightest disturbance can set it off. Albert Noble discovered by mixing nitroglycerin with sawdust it became stable, this invention became known as Dynamite. The ripples in the water are similar to combining old ideas to create new ideas. The combination can either intensify or diminish their effect. So how do we go about creating new ideas scientifically?

Scientific principle to create new ideas

The difference between an artisan and an engineer is an artisan relies on his experience which is information stored in his subconscious, by contrast, an engineer uses scientific principles. An example of an artisan is an adverting copywriter who was asked how did he get new ideas? He stated. First I learn everything about the product I am going to promote, go for a walk, have a martini. Meanwhile, my subconscious will be digesting all of the information about the product. All of a sudden out pops a new idea. Unfortunately, this doesn't provide someone who wants to learn how to create new ideas with useful information. Are there scientific principles which can be used to combine ideas together to create new ideas?

Roni Horowitz and Jacob Goldenberg studied innovative engineering solutions to find out if they followed a set of core principles. First, they discovered that they were in the box solutions, involving thinking similar to the Apollo 13 solution. Second, they found that the items required for the solution were within the immediate area. And most importantly they discovered they followed a basic set of operations. They describe how to apply these operations in their book Inside the Box: A Proven System of Creativity for Breakthrough Results.

Operations used to create new ideas, mindset, creativity

The basic operations required to build new ideas are subtraction, division, multiplication, task unification, attribute dependency and contradiction, being a new field of study, possible there are more operations to be discovered. The authors do not mention addition; it is implied. I will give a brief describe and example of each technique.

Subtraction Technique

This method involves breaking taking an item and breaking it down into its primary components. Then seeing which parts you can remove without reducing functionality.

An example of this is the Sony Walkman. Before the invention of the Walkman, Sony manufactured portable cassette players. Initially, people used portable cassette players for recording dictation or recording a meeting then playing it back. Distributing music on cassettes changed how people used portable cassette players. Sony saw a new market and wanted to design a mobile device to play music; they then looked at what functionality wasn't needed. The speaker and recording ability are not required to play music; removing them resulted in a smaller and cheaper product. Kiss, keep it simple stupid.

Division technique

Here you take a current item and attempt to split its functionality into separate parts. An example of this is modern food processing units for the kitchen. Originally you had separate kitchen appliances like a beater, blender, coffee grinder etc. A food processing unit has the electric motor separated from the attachments. The electric motor is the major cost of the appliance, this means you get more functionality at a lower price. At the same time, the device takes a lot less storage space.

Earlier I talked about how steam engines pumped water into a dam which then was used to power watermills. As William Rosen shows in The Most Powerful Idea in the World: A Story of Steam, Industry, and Invention, James Watt invented the steam engine to pump water from coal mines. Subconsciously, people associated steam engines with water pumps. Separating the steam engine from the water pump resulted in a device which could transform heat into mechanical energy. The steam engine then could be used to power textile mills, ships, etc.

Multiplication Technique

A device doesn't have to be complicated to have a tremendous impact on society. This device saves people time every day, improves personal hygiene and possibly reduced the murder rate. The invention I am talking about is the simple eating fork. Until the 17th century, most Europeans used only knives and spoons for eating. All knives had sharp points. First, one cut the meat, then using the point they skewered the meat and brought it to their mouth. An eating fork is a handle with multiple points attached to it. It increased personal hygiene since it decreased the chances of the meat falling on the floor. It also made eating safer, sticking sharp pointy objects into your mouth is hazardous.

As Steven Pinker shows in The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined the fork might have decreased violence in Europe. Eating was accompanied by drinking beer or wine. If they consumed too much alcohol, tempers would flair, two men having close at hand sharp daggers isn't a safe situation. The fork allowed knives used for eating to have their points dulled. It then became socially unacceptable to bring your sharp knife to the local pub or inn to hack off chunks of meat while eating and drinking. When violence broke out there chance of a fatal injury decreased.

Task unification technique

This is combining two seemly unrelated items into one. An example of this is Google using captchas to decode house numbers. The purpose of a captcha was to ensure a visitor to a website is human. To test if the visitor is human, give the visitor a meaningless task which only humans can perform. Why not make the task meaningful ? Captcha are now used to complete tasks like classifying photos, decoding house numbers etc.

With task unification, you are completing several tasks for the cost of one.

Attribute dependency technique

With this technique, two attributes which are usually independent are linked together. An example in nature is the chameleon, the color of the chameleon is linked to the environment. Less obvious are cups or glasses which change color depending on the temperature of their contents. For children's cups, they are just amusing toys but the idea could be used for practical purposes. In my previous post The journey is more important than the destination, I talked about making lollipops. A sugar water mixture has to be heated to a precise temperature and then poured into molds. The means checking the candy thermometer regularly. It is quicker and easier to see a color change. A sauce pan where you could set when it changes color based on a certain temperature could be useful.

Contradiction

Lets start by exposing the big secret: most contradictions are false. They occur in our minds but they are not real. They occur because of fixedness. Inside the Box: A Proven System of Creativity for Breakthrough Results

This more of a method to change mindset as opposed to a technique. Closely related to this is paradox, two descriptions which describe an object but appear to be contradictory. The best example of this is light can act as a wave or a particle. Paradoxes indicate a lack of understand, this troubles people, hence we try and avoid them. If you spot what appears to be a paradox, it needs to be examined closer.

The example given by the author in Inside the Box: A Proven System of Creativity for Breakthrough Results is during the Spanish civil war, the republican forces where besieged in a town by the Fascists. The republicans needed to be resupplied by air drops by the lacked parachutes. The contradiction is, air resupply can not be done without parachutes. How to come up with up with a solution ?

First the assumption needs to be broken, this opens up the possibility that a solution can be found. What could the republicans attach to the packaged needed to be dropped to slow their fall and is useful ?

The solution the republican forces came up with probably would upset the SPCA but all is fair in love and war. Instead of tying the supplies to parachutes, tie them to live turkeys. The turkey when thrown out of the airplane would flap, slowing the decent of the supplies. As an added benefit, the besieged republican soldiers could eat the the turkey while they can not eat a parachute.

In my previous post, I broke the shopping malls are for buying. Once I broke that assumption, I was able to use the shopping mall to find clients for my product. With assumptions, one must test if they are always true. If the assumption can be broken, then under certain circumstances it can be used to find a solution.

How do I meet women with large mammary glands?

At the start of this post, I promised, that you would be able to use the information in this post to increase your chances of having sex with women with large mammary glands. There are many good books on the subject, Robert Green for example provides the Concise 48 Laws of Power and the The Art of Seduction. In the first book he provides 48 principles for gaining power, in the second book he provides 24 principles for seduction. This is the part that people miss, just apply each principle will lead to limited results. You increase the probability of success by combining these principles to create new ones.

Creating new ideas or solutions isn't limited to seduction, it should be applied in every facet of your life. The way to start learning how to do this is by doing. This was the point behind my post The journey is more important than the destination.

I need your help

Recently third wave feminists have been attacking me, accusing me of being sexist for preferring women with large mammary glands over small ones. These accusations are 100% false. I enjoy studying and interacting with ladies with mammary glands of all sizes. In fact I would like to research the benefits of small mammary glands as opposed to large ones. Unfortunately these studies are quite expensive, I need your help. Also it isn't fair to ask ladies to help me in my valuable research without them being properly compensated. These hard working, honest ladies are thirsty and need lady drinks. Also they need money to help their mother who is in the hospital or baby brother in school. Please send your donations to my bitcoin address 3NgksauCyuLcVRqLHVLbAnhP2UqmqspJVQ I promise that these donations will find their way to help these lovely ladies.

Don't leave your house this Halloween [Halloween 2016] shortscarystories

Clowns are on the loose, razors and drugs are in candy, and nobody ever bothered to fix the potholes in the middle of the street that kids always trip over. But that’s not what I’m talking about.

I do worry about those things. Immensely. I’ve got a six year old and a four year old- how could I not? So when I took them out trick-or-treating earlier tonight, I had all those paranoid parental thoughts running through my head. Like every other year, though, Jamie and Sam were safe. There were no tricks, infinite treats.

It wasn’t until we got home that anything went wrong. Both my husband and I had taken our only two children out, so naturally our porch light was off and the inside were dark. I stepped in first, while my husband juggled Sam and two candy bags. I flipped the switch and looked down to take off my shoes.

There sat our family’s dog, Queen. Not sat, really, but lied. Sprawled. Surrounding him was every bodily fluid imaginable along with some weird yellow substance I had never seen before. It was awful; the image will be burned into my brain for a long time.

I let my husband in on what went down and subtly we came to the conclusion that Queen must have gotten into one of the candy bags somehow. Not wanting to tell our daughters, he took them back out for some “surprise” trick-or-treating, as I had offered to deal with the mess.

Scooting around my poor baby at the door, I made my way to the kitchen. I was always so careful; how could he have gotten into something like that? And what about the kids, do we tell them or just get them a new dog like nothing had ever happened? People did that with fish all the time, so why not a dog? They’d be devastated.

My thoughts were harshly interrupted by a note hanging on the refrigerator. It was written in the same weird yellow substance and read:

YOU WILL ALL FALL LIKE THE QUEEN

My family and I are staying at my husband’s parents’ house. To our childrens’ dismay, we’ve confiscated all the candy. Better safe than sorry. I don’t know who’s doing this or why, but I’m terrified. Someone is trying to poison us and we know nothing at this point.

So don’t leave your house this Halloween. Forget what’s out there, in the spooky night. Who knows who or what could be coming in while you’re gone?

Life pro tip: frozen orange juice reconstituted at home is more convenient, cheaper, and just as good as liquid OJ from the store Frugal

I used to buy orange juice from the refrigerator section of the store every week or so. Now, I buy it in the freezer section every few months. It's about 30% cheaper here, and it's one less thing to keep track of. Plus, it tastes fresher.

One important tip: reconstitute into a glass container. I have a 2L glass OJ container from the hippy co-op, which is perfect for the job. It has a wide-mouth lid, so I don't need to bother with funnels or spoons while reconstituting.

I tried re-using plastic bottles from my recycle bin, but no matter how well I wash them, the juice develops that metallic/fermented taste within a week. Not an issue with glass.

A third tip: a small glass of OJ is just as satisfying as a large glass at breakfast.

Beginner - Accidentally fridged after canning bath pickling

This is my first time pickling anything and I am pickling cucumbers. Followed instructions correctly for a recipe and performed a canning water bath for 10 minutes. I let the pickles cool on countertop and then somebody accidentally put them in the refrigerator for ~12 hours. I recently took them out and am storing at 72 degrees. Will fermentation still begin or have I completely stunted the possibility?

Re-Pitching Harvested Slurry Homebrewing

Hi all,

I've recently begun harvesting yeast from some of my more frequently used yeasts, and have finally gotten around to deciding to use one. However, I'm looking for a little advise/insight into the pitching rate of this slurry and was hoping you folks could offer some advice/experience.

I am brewing another 2.5 G, 1.059 OG, iteration of my ESB using 1968 (London ESB). I have one mason jar mostly full of harvested yeast. I would estimate that the jar has about 425 ml in it, 375 of which would be "compacted" yeast, and the rest the remainder of the previous beer. This yeast was harvested on Sept. 8, 2016 and has been kept in the refrigerator since.

Using most yeast calculators, I get a viability of around 60% given the harvest date. Using MrMalty, I get 10%. I can't believe that, so I have assumed a viability of 50% for the sake of conservativism.

Most of the information I have found shows that typical yeast concentrations of harvested slurry range from 1 to 5 billion cells per ml slurry. Assuming a slurry with 15% other trub material (yeast is strained prior to fermentation) and a concentration of 1.5 billion cells per ml slurry (again, for the sake of conservativism), MrMalty indicates that I only need 165 ml of this solution to pitch into a new 2.5 Gallon beer to pitch an adequate 100 billion cells.

Mathematically, this makes sense to me, but does this sound reasonable to you all?

The way I would pitch would be to let the solution warm up to room temperature prior to pitching, then pour the slurry into a measuring cup to the approximate required volume, then dump the rest to re-harvest after fermentation. Does this sound reasonable?

My alternatives are: 1) use this information to build a starter, then pitch as appropriate and pour the rest back into a re-sanitized jar

2) resuspend the yeast into the solution to make it a slurry, then add a small amount of sugar in order to "proof" the yeast.

Thanks for any input you guys can provide. Cheers!

Salmon Prep & freezing MealPrepSunday

I'm prepping on a Monday for 4 work days (T-F) and planning a salad with cooked salmon fillet. It will be eaten cold - no reheating. I've already read on here that cooked salmon won't last too long in the fridge.

My question is, if I cook (roast) the salmon today, can I freeze it and take each filet out to thaw in the refrigerator the night before? I CAN do a Wednesday mini-prep where I just cook the salmon, but I'd prefer not to unless the freezing/thawing is going to end up with some kind of weird/gross/inedible food.

Is your refrigerator running? Jokes

Because if not, I would check the troubleshooting guide your owners manual for common issues. Sometimes it's as simple as a clogged filter, or simply not being plugged in. Also, There may be a toll-free technical support number you can call. You also may have a manufacturers limited lifetime warranty that would cover diagnoses, parts, and in some cases labor, by a qualified licensed technician. Your manufacturer can recommend a local technician in your area. They may also help you schedule to have them look and if labor is not covered, they can provide an in-person estimate. Oh, it is running now? I'd vote for it.

5 month old puppy super aggressive out of nowhere, need advice please! [Help] dogs

Sorry if this post is long but I feel like I need to include a lot of info...Yesterday night we had a very scary experience with our 5 month old Border Collie puppy. It was around 9:30 at night and he was laying on the floor by the refrigerator and I went to pet him on his back/hind legs and he snapped. He lunged at me and bit me on the side of my chest. He showed no warning signs. After this incident he did not let me or my fiance near him without snarling, baring his teeth and lunging at us or trying to bite us for about an hour. It was like he was terrified of us for absolutely no reason. We were able to calm him down by sitting on the floor with him and gently petting him and not letting him bite is and basically just holding him. We don't know if he was hurt, or scared of the thunder since we had a lot of thunderstorms yesterday or if he was exhausted since we had a long day. Earlier in the day we took him to the dog park, and then my fiance took him for a run a few hours later. He then he came to my parents house for a few hours and then a stopped by a friends house for a bit. The whole time he did not show any signs of aggressive behavior. He is familiar with my parents house and all of the people there so its not like he was uncomfortable or anything. My 2 year old niece was playing with him (supervised) and he was sooo good with her. It was like a we flipped a switch out of nowhere and we cant figure out what happened. The only thing we could think of was that he was scared of the thunder and freaked out or he hurt himself/ he is teething and in pain. Is this possible? This morning he was fine, playful and cuddly as anything.

No Power and Broken Fridge - Baden-Wuertemberg, Germany legaladvice

TL;DR - No electricity for a week; broken fridge no replacement; Untrustworthy Landlord

Background: I am a study abroad student living in an off-campus and non-university affiliated housing. I signed a lease in September with two months rent as security deposit. Additionally, I paid all cash upfront for four months (September to December). I have the receipts for rent and security deposits and a copy of the lease.

Problem 1: Electricity was turned off the day after I signed the lease. I was unable to get electricity turned back on until next week. My landlord and leasing agency tried to get me to sign an electrical contract with a provider not in my city. It turns out, the previous tenant did not pay for electricity. I asked for a week of rent back, since I could not properly live in my own apartment for the first week. They say they are not responsible.

Question 1: Am I entitled to a portion of my rent since the electricity was turned off immediately after I moved in?

Problem 2: After the electricity was turned back on, my refrigerator did not work. I texted and called my landlord with no response. This was over three weeks ago. I called the leasing agency to ask for a new refrigerator. They said hopefully they'll get a new one and let me know when it will come in. I have not had a functioning refrigerator this entire time.

Question 2: Am I entitled to a portion of my rent since there was no functioning refrigerator?

Problem 3: I am leaving in late December. I do not trust the landlord to give me back the security deposit in cash like he promised. He is unresponsive to almost all of my calls and texts.

Question 3: How can ensure I receive my security deposit back before I leave?

Thank you for your time, I can provide more details if you need.

Is NC right for me? ExNoContact

TLDR - Wife moved out because I was verbally abusive. We've been spending a lot of time together. I have rejection/abandonment issues I need to deal with so seeing her leave everyday hurts like hell. We start CC tomorrow but I've been doing "partial" NC since Friday. Need to know if this is right course of action. ---->

--->I'm 33, my wife is 36. We've been married almost 11 years. We have 2 children. 6 weeks ago to the day she left the house. She was staying at her sister's house which was overcrowded and never ideal. Kids stayed with me most nights. About a week ago she got her own place on a month to month lease. She said her ideal plan would have been to get her own place from day 1 but she couldn't afford it.

Since then I've come to grips with the fact the I've been a verbal abuser for about 9 years of our marriage.

I've learned a lot during this time about verbal abuse, what it is, what it does, but most importantly I'm hunting down the source of mine because I love my wife and I can't stand to see her hurt especially when I'm the cause of pain.

Anyways, I went to a consultation for anger management but the therapist deemed couples counseling was a better option seeing how we both still love each other and actually want to reconcile but she "just needs her space."

So we start counseling tomorrow. I know the therapist is going to advise her to move back in. I know this because I've already met with him once. I haven't pressured her in weeks so hopefully she'll take his advice.

In the mean time, we have been seeing a lot of each other. The interactions have been great and even potential conflicts have been resolved smoothly. As I said, we have 2 children so we see each other for that. But also, my refrigerator broke and she was having some kind of trouble with her stove at her new place that she just moved into a week ago. So we've been eating together, some nights going out to eat. She doesn't have a washer and dryer so she does laundry over here (mine too) and hangs out.

I've learned from my abuse research that my abusive behavior comes from verbal and emotional abuse I suffered as a child and that came along with a steady dose of fear of abandonment and rejection. Yeah, basically my mom didn't want me and I've known this my whole life. That's a story for another sub. Anyway, classic Mr. Nice Guy syndrome, for those who have read the book. Now I understand those fears a bit more and am able to recognize them and calm myself down. For example, having a fear of abandonment and rejection can turn a little criticism into "OMG she doesn't love me, I'm not worthy, she doesn't want me, she's going to leave!" So see her actually leave is one of the hardest things I've had to endure. But she leaves me everyday!

Everyday we have fun, we enjoy each other... and then she literally rejects and abandons me. I'm trying to deal with these issues but how can I deal with the fear when that far is being manifested before my very eyes every single day?

Last Thursday she had to put her car in the shop so she called me for a ride home from work. Once I picked her up she said she needed to go have an extra key made so I had to run her to the hardware store, then to the shop, then back to my (our) house where we ate dinner, had a good time, etc. Toward the end of the night somehow (can't remember) we got on the topic of us. She tore into me but I kept my composure. She verbally abuses too but I've decided to take responsibility for creating that environment. Plus I'm better (worse) at it. Anyways, she apologized the next day and later asked for a ride to the shop after work to pick up her car.

I agreed but shortly after doing so remembered the NC rule. y wife left me before, about 2 years ago. Everything very similar. I remember NC helped me get her back. So i sent her a text saying I would pick her up that day because I agreed to and it was getting to late to make other arrangements but I think we should start keeping some space between us because if there is any benefit to us being separated then we're not taking full advantage of it, we're just making our new lives apart more comfortable and routine.

She did laundry that night and hung out. I only spoke about the children and gave polite smiles and nods when she talked abut anything else. We planned to take the kids to Chuck E Cheese's the next day but I opted out of that.

She came over Saturday morning to get the kids and I have to say, this was the most attractive I've seen my wife look in a long time. I couldn't help but wonder if the half day of NC had provoked her to get so done up. More classy than sexy. She almost caught me noticing, it was slightly awkward. They all leave and I don't hear from her again until after midnight when she informs me the kids are with her (obviously) and she asks me about "Family Game Night" that my son (who has been instrumental in trying to get the fam back together) organised for Sunday (last night). Now, my wife doesn't know that I've already talked to my son and told him that I can't attend Game Night because I'm trying to get Mommy to miss me. He understands my absence is for the greater good and he's all in with the plan. So I told her I probably wouldn't make it because I think we should be trying to limit our exposure to one another and work on ourselves. Furthermore, it was causing further damage because the roller coaster ride of "family" to "I don't want to live with you" stirs up strong emotions in me, the kind that lead to verbally abusive outbursts (fear of rejection, let me hurt you and kick you out of my life before you can do the same to me).

She got somewhat upset at this. Said I was being a jerk, that I hadn't changed, etc. After a few hours I broke down and called to ask her to join us for game night. It wouldn't have been fun with just the 3 of them as I'm the fun parent. So we had Game Night and everyone had a good time. Again, I didn't do any one on one interactions with my wife other than to smile and nod at her comments to me. I didn't feel any tension in the air, it seemed like a good night.

I think I messed up by texting her later that night. I asked if she understood what I was saying earlier. I should have just kept the NC. She sent about 10 texts after that basically saying yes she understood BUT she needs to see me in different atmospheres- as well as her alone time (what about my alone time?).

Just seems like she wants to have her cake and eat it too. I feel like, she wanted to separate, she needs to know what it means to be separated to be sure if that's what she really wants. We also both need space. I know I do to deal with the things I'm dealing with. And if handled correctly, hopefully she won't have to deal with me verbally abusing her anymore.

My plan is to continue NC today and tomorrow and see what the marriage conselor has to say. My question is, is this wise? Should I continue with NC (sans therapy) until she moves back in or what?

Thank you for reading, any response will be greatly appreciated.

White Chocolate & Honeycomb Mud Cake recipes

If you love white chocolate, like me, then this is a cake you must definitely make. In fact, this is the next cake you should make! Have you started making it yet… This cake has white chocolate in the cake mix, then more in the ganache filling in both the centre and top of the cake. Mixed through the cake are ‘Violet Crumble’ chocolate bar pieces. This adds a subtle hint of honeycomb as well as a wonderful chewy texture when you are lucky to get a small piece of cake with a piece of honeycomb baked through. Topped with honeycomb pieces also provide an extra chewy mouthful.

Ingredients:
Cake
• 250 g Butter, chopped
• 180 g White Chocolate, use premium white chocolate, chopped
• 1 cup Milk
• 1 3/4 cups Caster Sugar
• 2 tsp Vanilla Essence
• 2 Eggs, Whisked
• 1 3/4 cups Plain Flour, sifted
• 1/2 cup Self-Raising Flour, sifted
• 2 Violet Crumble Chocolate Bars, 50g bars, chopped
White Chocolate Ganache Filling
• 200 g White Chocolate, chopped
• 1/2 cup Thickened Cream
White Chocolate Ganache for Top of Cake
• 200 g White Chocolate, chopped
• 1/2 cup Thickened Cream

Instructions
1. Grease & line the bottom and sides of a 20cm Springform round baking tin with baking paper
2. Place butter, white chocolate, milk, sugar and vanilla essence in a saucepan on medium heat. Cook while stirring for about 5 minutes or until all ingredients have melted and combined into a smooth mixture. Set aside to cool for 25 minutes.
3. Preheat oven to 140°C (fan forced)
4. Sift both flours into a large bowl.
5. Add chocolate mixture from the saucepan and eggs into the bowl with the flour.
6. Stir with a wooden spoon until well combined.
7. Fold 1/2 of violet crumble pieces into the mixture. Set aside the other half for the top of the cake.
8. Pour mixture into baking tin and cook in oven for approx 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours. Cook until a skewer inserted into the centre of the cake has moist crumbs clinging.
9. Cool in pan for 15 minutes before turning out on a wire rack to finish cooling
10. Cut cake in half with a serrated knife and spread the ganache filling over the base.
11. Place second half of cake bake on top and spread the remaining ganache over the top of the cake.
12. Place in refrigerator to set
13. Place remaining violet crumble pieces onto the ganache layer on top of the cake
White Chocolate Ganache Filling
1. Combine chocolate and cream in a heatproof bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute. After the first 30 seconds remove from microwave and stir. Put back in microwave for remaining 30 seconds. You should then be able to stir the chocolate until a smooth mixture is achieved.
2. Place in refrigerator for at least 1 hour to allow ganache to set and thicken before icing the cake.
3. Once set, remove the ganache from the refrigerator and using an electric mixer, beta the ganache until it is light and fluffy
White Chocolate Ganche for Top of Cake
1. Follow the same instructions as for the ganache filling.

Rediscovered sliced peaches in sugar Canning

I sliced up some not-quite-ripe peaches, sprinkled sugar over them, put the bowl in the refrigerator, and forgot about it. Now -- at least 2 weeks later -- they are very soft and brown. Are they pestilential and rotten and dangerous? Or are they in an interesting state that could be used as the basis of a syrup? Would they be OK if I boiled them? I had intended to can them, originally, but I think that's past consideration ... thanks for all suggestions!

Unclaimed heavy objects pettyrevenge

My mother in law gifted me a gift card to my favorite electronic store, they sell anything from electric toothbrushes to 80" plasmas. It is the best in my city, I bought every appliances I own there, I even semi-knew the store manager at the store thru a mutual friend.

The thing is the gift card wasn't actually a card, it was more like a recipe and it was to be put in an envelope together with the prof of purchase. The clerk that processed the purchase of this gift "card" forgot to place the gift recipe in the envelope and I was denied to use the series number that was found on the prof of purchase, they could even see by checking the code on the computer that the gift card was still unused and active.

Nothing they could do. I was mad, completely stopped using the company. Even worse was that it was the store manager who expedited me.

Now to the revenge. This company uses different kind of delivery systems, one which lets the customer order stuff at home then pay and pick it up at the store. This is a smaller store, so the can't keep everything in stock, so they get weekly shipments from the main warehouse. Anything that is big will come from the warehouse, then mostly the costumers will pick it up the same day. Now and then I browse the company's biggest and heaviest product that they usually don't keep in stock and orders it in a fake account for a store pick up and then forget about it. I hope you get really sweaty moving my unclaimed side-by-side refrigerators...

Sober weekends are the best weekends stopdrinking

My first few attempts at quitting were derailed because I would get to the weekend and drink again because....what else am I supposed to do with all this free time?

Well, now that I don't spend my entire weekend day drinking, I'm finding there's actually a lot to do in my free time and it's all things that make me feel a lot better than alcohol did. And since I'm not hungover, I have a lot more energy to actually get stuff done. I'm kind of amazed at what I got done this weekend:

-I drove my grandma to early voting and then took her to the optometrist to get her new glasses. -I went grocery shopping (normally one of my least favorite chores) -Baked apple crisp and cooked a healthy dinner (kale was involved) -Cleaned out our nasty refrigerator (it was long overdue) -Did massive amounts of laundry -Did my banking -Bought myself some new work shirts (another chore I dislike) -Cooked a large batch of rice, beans and corn to bring to work for healthy lunches this week -Visited an herbal store that I had been meaning to check out, picked up some new teas and chatted with the herbalist there -Finally got the supplies and stapled a coax cable to the wall so I don't have to keep tripping over it

Tonight I'm planning on making a soy milkshake, kicking back and watching a scary movie :) I actually feel rested and prepared for the week ahead, instead of feeling hungover and exhausted.

What do sober weekends look like for you, sobernauts?

Curiosity about water lines in unheated garage HomeImprovement

Hello, I'm in Massachusetts. I'm working on our kitchen remodel and the area below where new plumbing needs to go is an unheated garage. I'm running about 2' of 1/4" Pex for a refrigerator and then 6' of 1/2" Pex for hot/cold inside this unheated space. There are currently 2 boiler hydronic lines near where I'd be running the pex for the fridge and they're all wrapped in pipe insulation. Would running the water lines here risk freezing and would I need to do anything special to prevent it? Appreciated.

Thank you RBN raisedbynarcissists

Thank you, RBN. This sub has helped me stand up to my nmom tonight. Earlier today she yelled at me for supposedly leaving the door open on our extra refrigerator downstairs and I said that I didn't. She said "yeah right. I know you did it." I said "yeah because I am the only one who comes into the basement right?" pointing at her* later on tonight:

My dad has a bad memory and forgot to close it. I said it wasn't a big deal. My nmom attempted to apologize to me and I said "are you sorry for acting like a psychopath about it or are you sorry that you were wrongfully accusing me?" She just "I am sorry." And I responded "no, you are not sorry." This pissed her off so much lol then I told her I could see right through her for who she really is. She got mad and said "whatever!" I just walked out the door (no i didn't run away)

Thank you RBN for helping me stand up for myself. I start crying out of nowhere whenever an argument escalates, but I held my ground this time and I am proud of myself. I will probably get kicked out of the house now for all of this - a refrigerator door. I am happy. I broke her down and she realizes that I will no longer fall for her bullshit.

**Mediterranean-Style Leg of Lamb Recipe with Potatoes** The ultimate Mediterranean-style leg of lamb recipe! Leg of lamb covered in a rub of fresh garlic, Mediterranean spices, olive oil and lemon juice. recipes

Ingredients

  • 1 4-5 lb leg of lamb, bone in, fat trimmed
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil, more for later
  • 5 garlic cloves, peeled and sliced; more for later
  • 2 cups water
  • 8 medium gold potatoes, peeled and cut into wedges
  • 1 medium yellow onion, peeled and cut into wedges
  • 1 tsp paprika; more for later
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 recipe Lebanese rice, optional
  • Fresh parsley for garnish, optional

For the lamb rub:

  • 15 garlic cloves, peeled
  • 2 tbsp dried oregano
  • 2 tbsp dried mint flakes
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • ½ tbsp ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • 2 lemons, juice of

Instructions

  1. Take the leg of lamb out of the refrigerator and leave in room temperature for

about 1 hour. In the meantime, prepare the remaining ingredients and make the lamb rub.

  2. To make the rub, in a food processor, combine the rub ingredients. Blend until

smooth. Set aside (or in the fridge, if preparing in advance).

  3. When ready, pat the lamb dry and make a few slits on both sides. Season with

    salt and pepper.

  4. Turn the oven on broil. Place the leg of lamb on a wire rack; place the rack

directly on the top oven rack so that it's only a few inches away from the broiler

element. Broil for 5-7 minutes on each side or until the leg of lamb is nicely

seared. Remove from the oven, then adjust the oven temperature to 375 degrees F.

  5. When the lamb is cool enough to handle, insert the garlic slices in the slits you

made earlier. Now cover the leg of lamb on all sides with the wet rub you made

earlier and place it in the middle of a roasting pan with an inside rack. Add two

cups of water to the bottom of the roasting pan.

  6. Season the potato and onion wedges with the paprika, garlic powder and a little

salt, then add them to the pan on either side of the lamb.

  7. Now tent a large piece of foil over the roasting pan, then place the pan on the

middle rack of the 375 degrees F heated-oven. Roast covered for 1 hour.

Remove the foil and return the roasting pan to the oven for another 10-15

minutes or until the lamb temperature registers 140 degrees F for medium.

  8. Remove the pan from the oven and let the leg of lamb rest for at least 20

    minutes before serving.

  9. If you choose to, midway through roasting the lamb, cook the rice according to this recipe.

  10. Place the lamb and potatoes in a large serving platter over a bed of Lebanese

rice, if you choose to. Garnish with parsley.

Or, you may carve the lamb first, then arrange the sliced lamb with the potatoes over the rice. Enjoy!

It's Not Delivery LetsNotMeet

Long-time lurker, first post, you know the drill. I've read so many of these Let's Not Meet posts and didn't even take into account that I could actually post here myself. This happened a year or so ago, so it's not exactly new, but it's a story nonetheless.

I'll preface this by saying I live in an area where encounters that someone could write about here don't really happen that often. I used to like to go on walks in the middle of the night and nothing would happen. I'd see some drunk college students from time to time, but they were mostly harmless. There was no sense of actual danger the entire time.

Across the street from my house is some mom-and-pop appliance store, it isn't very busy but it has two vending machines in front of it. This and its disproportionate parking lot were the only reasons people ever went near there, but every few weeks or so the store would get a delivery so some pickup trucks loaded with dishwashers or refrigerators would park outside for a few hours.

The vending machines were convenient for me, and I'd go over to get a bottle of soda every night to bring to class in the morning. I had been doing this for maybe two weeks at this point. At 1:30, or whenever I would decide to go, there was almost never anyone parked in that lot. Until then, anyway.

Looking out the window, I could see one of the typical white pickups that I'd see there sometimes, but this one didn't have any labels or decoration like the others. Not only that, but no deliveries were scheduled for a while yet. It was parked maybe 40 feet from the machines I was looking for, so I wasn't too worried. That night, I got a soda like usual and went home. I did it a lot more quickly and cautiously, something about this all made me pretty uneasy.

The next night, I got together a little bit of change like usual, just going through the motions. Before I left I remembered why I would have thought twice about it beforehand. I looked outside, and saw the same truck again. Only this time, it was parked one spot closer to the vending machines. I was a little put off, but it was still pretty far away. I was already outside, so I wasn't going back now. I got what I wanted and left immediately.

Finally, I decided to check on the truck before I left. It was parked right next to the machines. I walked outside with a flashlight like I usually would, but I passed on buying a soda. I wanted to see what was up with this truck, so I walked across the street into the parking lot (I was not smart a year ago). This was when I had the bright idea to look in the truck's windows. From a distance, I turned on the flashlight and directed it toward the old pickup. That's when I saw a head quickly duck out of sight.

I was understandably pretty shaken, and I didn't go back out there at night for another few weeks. The truck would continue to park in the same spot for the next couple days, but after that it never came back. Needless to say, I was a lot more careful from then on.

Young woman to be homeless. Is living in my car the best option? vandwellers

Throwaway for obvious reasons. Was directed here by another redditor on my main account.

Quick rundown on me. I'm 25, female, live in Eugene, Oregon, work two jobs, and am about to be homeless. I've been renting a room for the past two years, and my landlord needs me to vacate the property so his daughter can move in. He gave me proper notice, so I don't have a legal case here. I've been scouring Craigslist, hitting up every apartment complex in town, etc. with no luck. My credit is poor and I've been rejected from a few complexes, despite my income. I have no one who can cosign. I have a few friends in town, but they all live with roommates or their parents (and are just as broke as I am) and cannot help. I am estranged from my family due to my sexual orientation.

For the past few years, I have lived in a cycle of working, paying off debt, then having upcoming medical expenses or other issues come up and have to rely on my credit card. I have never missed a payment, but the debt is around ~$12K, even with me working two jobs.

I have a 2007 Mazda 6 with only about 60K miles on it that drives like a champ. The seats do not fold down, but I found a shop in Portland that can take out the backseat and build a bed in the back for me for a few hundred dollars. I'm thinking this might be my best option. Otherwise, I will have to go to a shelter (which I REALLY don't want to do, as the ones around here are very unsafe, dirty, and packed) or spend $1200 a month living in a motel until I find a roommate on Craigslist that doesn't flake out on me/isn't on drugs/both.

I have about $2K in savings, a gym membership, P.O. Box, and safe deposit box. For belongings, I have a TV, Xbox One, and some games I plan on selling, and some clothes, a laptop, a smartphone, and some sentimental things I plan on keeping. One of my jobs is at a restaurant, where I eat a free shift meal 3 times a week. The other one has several breakrooms with refrigerators and microwaves. I also have a work locker and gym locker for storage.

My primary concern is safety. How can I be stealthy in a sedan? What places are safe to park? Where can I go where I won't be harassed by the cops?

I would love to have a van, but it's just not feasible right now. I owe $4K on the car, and it's barely worth $5K. Vans in my area for $1000 or less either don't run or are rustbuckets. I don't want to blow all of my savings on a different vehicle when I'm relying on this one to take me to my jobs, and, in a week, to the gym for showers, the Post Office for mail, etc.

Be brutally honest with me. If I have to spend $1200 a month on a hotel, I'll do that as long as I can. If a homeless shelter is better, then I'll try to find the safest one I can. I'm at my wit's end here and I just don't know what to do.

Help - Computer restarts when refrigerator cycle ends electricians

Hello! I moved recently and I have an annoying problem. When the refrigerator cycle ends my computer restarts sometimes (well, most of the times). They are not connected in the same wall socket nor in the same extension cords. Has anyone experienced this before? I've been struggling with this problem for a month now and I still can't find a solution (at least a cheap one - I've read on a forum people recommending a UPS, that's like 20% of my salary in my country and I'm 22). Thanks a lot! Edit: forgot some details. The problem must be from the wall socket but it happens when the fridge cycle ends. One time I removed the refrigerator cord from the wall and the computer restarted instantly.

Norman has had enough. lifeofnorman

Norman sat at his desk at work, his eyes on the paperwork laid out before him, but his mind elsewhere. A mint chocolate cupcake was waiting for him in the office refrigerator. Norman didn't usually indulge in sweets like this, but yesterday had been his birthday. Allison, from HR, liked to keep track of everyone's birthday and always made sure to bring in cupcakes or even a full sized cake when someone in the office was working on their birthday.

An easy oversight to make, Norman thought, as Allison hadn't brought in anything yesterday. She is probably overworked as well.

After work last night Norman had walked to a cupcake shop that had been a bit out of his way. He was not fond of mint chocolate, and was hoping to get a plain vanilla with vanilla frosting, but the mint chocolate was all they had left. He decided he would save it for after his lunch at work the next day.

Perhaps I should eat it now, in case someone mistakes it for their own cupcake. It was only 11:15am and Norman knew it was unlikely that anyone would eat his cupcake, but he worried about it nonetheless. I better just be done with it so I can focus on my work.

Norman walked to the break room and retrieved his treat. It was a bit smooshed as Norman had to hide it in his coat to protect it as it started to rain on his walk home last night. Eating it reminded him of how little he cared for mint chocolate, but he was committed to enjoying this rare sweet.

“Happy Birthday!” Allison shouted as Norman returned to his desk, startling him. She was carrying a tray of vanilla cupcakes. “You’d thought I'd forgotten, didn't you Jim?” She said as she placed the tray down on Jim's desk. “Come on everyone, get a cupcake and wish Jim a happy birthday!” Allison announced to the office. Jim looked pleased.

Norman was glad that Allison had remembered Jim’s birthday, and the cupcakes did look good to Norman. Better not, he thought, as he sat back down to his paperwork. I've had enough.

Get to know the Legend! Episode 1 MaddenUltimateTeam

Welcome everybody to 'Get to know the Legend! Episode 1'

First off, let me tell you what I'm trying to do here: With EA introducing lots of new legends this year, many of them MUT first timers and players from decades long gone I often have to familiarize myself with the name and the player when they announce the releases on the weekend and often you read something along the lines 'I don't know who he is but his stats look good'. What I'll be trying to do every Saturday from tomorrow onwards is write a few paragraphs or post a video clip about the new legends so you can learn about them if you don't know them or refresh your memory. I love using players I know and like and in the grand scheme of NFL history I know not very many so I'll be using this to educate you and myself on them.

Because this is a MUT subreddit I will also be talking about the legends, their stats and what roles I think they are best suited for/how they stack up to the alternatives.

Hope you enjoy it!

I will not be talking about every legend released so far due to the sheer amount but focus on a select few for this first edition, so I'll pick guys that I assume are not that well known.

Let's get it going with a real gamechanger:

Mel Blount: Not very many players can say they changed the way the game was played. Even fewer are the namesake of a rule that changed the landscape of the NFL so significantly. Mel Blount is one of them.

As a member of the famed Steel Curtain defense that shut down opponents in the 1970s and 1980s Blount was famous for his incredibly physical play at the CB position, punishing receivers wherever they went. Bump and Run coverage meant something different back then and in 1978, on initiative by HoF Coach and then leader of the Competition Committee Don Shula, a rule known as the Mel Blount rule was introduced that allowed CBs to make contact with the receiver only within the first 5 yards from the LoS. At the same time the distance between the hash marks was increased and the NFL saw a massive increase in passing.

All that didn't stop the Steelers or Mel Blount for that matter as they continued to dominate teams. Multiple All-Pro selections, a selection to the 1980s all-decade team, 4 SB rings, the 1975 DPOY award and a bust in Canton are just some of his accolades.

If you want to know more about the Steelers dynasty here is a short clip 70s Steelers

If you want to see a short video on Mel Blount: #44 Mel Blount

So what can he do for your MUT team? First off, let's compare him to some other legend CBs: http://ift.tt/2ek4jC5

While Blount is not quite as good in pure coverage as some of the other top guys he brings something to the table that none of the others do: power. 89 HP is insane for a CB and he also has the Big Hitter trait. His 74 BKS, 74 STR and 79 tackling make him the best CB against the run while still boasting elite coverage stats, good speed and great size.

For around 200k this is the first CB I'd pick up if I was looking for a new CB. I think he provides fantastic value and until NTL or Rod Woodson get's released there probably won't be a CB that is quite as good against the run and has such excellent traits.

Mike Singletary:

Before he was the HC of the 49ers and appeared on Hard Knocks as a Defensive Assistant for the LA Rams Singletary played for probably the most brutal defense the NFL has ever seen, the 85 Bears. Whenever you see the 46 formation pop up in your playbook you see a variation of the defense that DC Buddy Ryan, father of Rex and Rob, ran under HC Mike Ditka that had one goal and one goal only: Hit the QB. Named after former safety Doug Plank (he wore #46) the defense that brought the Lombardi Trophy to Chicago recorded back to back playoff shutouts against the LA Rams with Eric Dickerson and the New York Giants with HC Bill Parcells and DC Bill Belichick, QB Phil Simms and the best defensive player the NFL has seen in Lawrence Taylor. They won the SB in one of the most one-sided games along with the Seahawks' demolition of the Denver Broncos. The Bears also featured one of my favourite RBs of all time, Walter 'Sweetness' Payton, and William 'Refrigerator' Perry, who has popped up in previous years as a DT and an OOP FB.

Enough of the 85 Bears, more about Singletary. An 8 time All-Pro, 2 time DPOY and a SB champ he got his introduction to Canton in 1985. Much of the success of the 46 defense was based on the play of the linebackers, who had to be good in all aspects of the game, and Singletary was the best of the bunch.

How is he in MUT? Here's a comparison to Nitschke and Kuechly: http://ift.tt/2fftESF

While Samurai Mike is the fastest of the bunch he's also the shortest and I feel like speed is the only thing that really makes him stand out. He's a great tackler and has excellent mental stats, but his ZCV is lower and he's worse against the run than Nitschke. If you are looking for a guy you can sometimes user but also let alone he should be a great choice but I'm not sure he's worth the worth the higher price tag if you're looking for an AI MLB.

(I did not compare him to Urlacher because Urlacher punches in a different weight class)

A few videos about the 85 Bears and Singletary:

The 85 Bears Defense

The 85 Bears LB corps

NFL Films short about the 85 Bears

Mike Singletary

There's also an 'A Football Life' about Singletary and a '30 for 30' about the 85 Bears.

Hope you enjoyed inaugural episode, let me know if you think it stinks, what should be improved or if you think it has no place on this sub. Also please point out any mistakes or inaccuracies you find.

[Physics I] Energy Cost HomeworkHelp

I'm a bit stuck on this question, any help would be appreciated.

"You're trying to decide whether to buy an energy-efficient, 225 -W refrigerator for $1150 or a standard, 425 -W model for $850. The standard model will run 20% of the time, but better insulation means the energy-efficient model will run 11% of the time."

2 garlic cloves, minced
1 teaspoons fresh ginger, grated
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
3 tablespoons arrowroot powder
1 pound flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
3 crowns of broccoli, cut into florets
salt and pepper, to taste
couple tablespoons of coconut oil
½ cup toasted cashews

Directions

  1. Whisk together coconut amines, orange juice, honey, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, arrowroot powder, and a bit of salt and pepper.

  2. Place sliced flank steak in a shallow bowl and pour whisked mixture on top of the meat to cover. Place in fridge and let refrigerate for 30 minutes.

  3. After meat has refrigerated, place a large pan or dutch oven over medium heat. Add about a tablespoon of coconut oil to the pan when hot, then add broccoli florets. Sprinkle with a little salt and mix around in the pan to help crisp up. To make sure my broccoli gets soft, I use a teaspoon of water, add it to the pan and then cover to help steam the broccoli for just 1 minute.

  4. Once broccoli is cooked through to preference, remove from pan and set aside.

  5. Place pan back over high heat, add a little more coconut oil then add the meat and sauce directly to the hot pan, trying not to overcrowd the bottom of the pan. Cook meat until barely any pink remains, then add broccoli back to the pan, along with toasted cashews.

  6. Mix together and cook for 1 more minute. Serve!

It's That Time of Year Again nosleep

At the end of every October, my dad comes home to visit. He always stays for a week. During this week, my mom cries a lot. Part of me is always happy to see him at first. We live in a small town in southern Wisconsin, sometimes the weather this time of year is really nice. Sometimes it is very cold.

The problem with my dad, is the longer he stays at the house, the angrier he seems to get. It always happens this way. I always thought this is why he had to leave the first time. Before he left the first time, him and mom argued a lot. She said she couldn’t believe what he was doing, and that he was a monster. After she said that, he stormed out of the house, and I didn’t see him again until next year.

After he left the first time, the police showed up to our house two days later. I was told to stay in my room, and the police needed to talk to my mom. My door was not closed all the way, so I was peeking through the crack to hear as much as I could. I heard her tell her she didn’t know what he was capable of, when she saw him last, and they gave her a card with a phone number to call if he showed up. She put the credit card on the refrigerator, and held it up with a magnet that also had the number of a local pizza place. I saw the police a lot for the next few days, and suddenly they stopped showing up.

Over the next few months, I would occasionally ask my mom where is dad, when he would be home, and when I can see daddy again. She always told me that he won’t be coming home anymore, and that he is gone for good. She always followed that up with saying it was a good thing, and that my dad no longer knew how to be a good person. I eventually stopped asking, and accepted what she had told me.

October 24th, I saw him again. I know it was October 24th, because it is a week before Halloween. He showed up at the door, my mom answered. She nearly fainted when she saw him. I remember her saying “You are supposed to be dead!” He told her that he didn’t know what she was talking about, and walked past her. I was so extremely happy to see him. I ran to him, hugged him, and he hugged me back, and picked me up, and spun around while holding me. We sat down, I told him everything that has been going on in my life, he was surprised he hasn’t seen me so long. My mom disappeared, I heard her talking on the phone, not interested in what she was saying. We watched TV, and I sat on his lap, and eventually fell asleep. I woke up the next day, and my dad was still there. My mom looked like she didn’t sleep at all. The next day was great. My dad played out in the yard with me. I asked if he wanted to go to the park, and he just said he couldn’t leave. I asked why, and he said he wasn’t sure, he just knew. So, we played at home. On the third day, was when my dad started to occasionally be mean. I would ask him to play, or watch tv, or play video games, and he would tell me to leave him alone for a while. So, I would. When he was done with his alone time, he was his normal self. On the fourth day, he would need more alone time, and if I interrupted at all, he would scream at me.

On the fifth day, I couldn’t talk to him at all. He would yell at me any time he saw me, and started saying things that didn’t make sense. My mom stayed closer to me, she kept calling the number for the police on the refrigerator, I saw her do that more than once since dad came home. She kept telling me that she wouldn’t let anything happen to me, and he would have to go through her first. He would always say that he might, or he was thinking about it.

The sixth day, was the worst day. Whatever room in the house he was in, we couldn’t be in it. He would try to hit us if we were, or he would throw books, or lamps, or anything within reach at us. We never went into the kitchen with him, because he always had a knife. Eventually, my mom took me, and locked the both of us in my room. We laid in bed, and she told me stories. Mostly about what it was like when I was younger, and how the three of us would have fun camping, or on other vacations. I remember him pounding on the door, yelling to let us in so he can skin us alive. Which made me very scared. I ended up wetting my pants, and my mom told me it was OK, and we would clean it up later. He was banging on every door he could, I could hear him hitting the walls with what sounded like a hammer, and just screaming like a maniac. I heard someone knock on the door and ask us to keep it down, and then I heard a scream, and saw a person running outside the window of my room. Eventually I fell asleep in my mom’s arms, and she was quietly crying.

I woke up the next morning when I heard the front door slam shut. It felt so loud and hard, the whole house shook. My mom jumped up as well. She put me under the bed, and told me to not move until she tells me to. She left my room, and for what felt like ages. The quietness of our house was like nothing I have experienced before. She eventually came back in my room, and told me it was safe. As we were expecting, there were holes in the wall, dishes broken in the kitchen, and all kinds of things thrown around. Some of my stuffed animals were cut and the stuffing was pulled out. I asked my mom what had happened to daddy, and she sat me down on the couch. She told me that he was a monster. When he left the house the previous year, he hurt lots of people. He hurt people for about 4 days before he was found by the police and they shot him. He is dead, and the police didn’t believe her when she told the police. She doesn’t know why he came back, but she said she hoped he never comes back.

The following year, he came back. He comes back every year. No matter where we are, even after we moved to a new house. He always finds us, and always the same. He starts off very nice, and at the very end, he almost hurts us. Tomorrow starts the fourth day of him staying with us.
