Some refrigerators use the scale 1 to 5 and some also refer to 1 as minimum and 5 as maximum. As a rule of thumb, how do I tell which end is coldest without waiting for my food to go bad? NoStupidQuestions

It confused me quite a bit last year when I moved into student accommodations as our fridge at home had 1 to 5, but the one in my student place had min to max. Does min mean min temp, or min power, so the higher temp?
