I bought a VR headset from Alibaba. nosleep

So I'm a 24 year old male who's into gaming and technology. I am a "early adopter" kind of person, so naturally I'm very excited about VR technology.

After I browsed the web on VR Games(and porn) I was immediately sold. There were so many possibilities, so much technology.

I searched for available VR headsets, and there weren't that many. There was the Oculus Rift(fuck that shit), HTC vive and OSVR but they all costed an asston. I had spent $2000 on a VR-ready rig with a GTX 1080 so I couldn't really afford anything.

So I searched around in Chinese websites for cheap VR headsets that I could use, at least for now. Upon searching, the cheapest decent one I could find was this thing. It looked like shit, but who cares, it's $30 for the headset, tracker and controller.

I ordered it from Alibaba and waited for 3 weeks for it to arrive.

When it came, it was shipped in a discreet cardboard box, the headset being surrounded by cheap foam.

When I opened it, it smelled... odd.

It seemed to smell bad, like rotten meat, but sickly sweet at the same time. Sort of like a corpse that was perfumed. It was an enchanting but frightening smell. Making some racist remarks on the build quality of Chinese products, I wiped the thing off with a rag and the smell seemed to get better.

I connected the thing with my rig, then fired up an example game. Turning on the headset, I remarked how surprisingly decent it was, and how smoothly it tracked for $30. I tried using the included controller. It felt like cheap plastic shit, so I replaced it with my PS4 DualShock.

I spent a few minutes getting into the tutorial for the game and getting used to VR. I got a little bit of motion sickness, but it worked well otherwise. I even cleared a few quests of the game without throwing up.

Just then, the screen flickered and showed an image of a little girl, smiling with a teddy bear in her hands.

Except the little girl's eyeballs were gone, and the teddy bear's head was coming off.

I jumped backwards and fell down in fear and surprise. Luckily I fell into my bed so I didn't hurt myself, but I was scared badly. I threw off the HMD on the ground and lay myself on the bed, trying to regain my senses.

After a few minutes, I could get back up. Thinking about what happened, I laughed it off that I was surprised by such a small thing. It obviously was an easter egg in the game, a little joke to surprise users.

But that was enough VR for one day, so I went straight to bed.

The next day, my headset was gone.

It was just... gone. I had left it on the ground the last day.

The tracker and controller was there, but the headset was just gone.

Gone.

I sat on my bed, trying to make sense of my headset disappearing. I was completely sure that I left it on the ground.

I concluded that I had too many beers last night and I went to the kitchen for a hearty morning before work.

I opened the refrigerator for my sausage and eggs, but there was something I did not expect to be in there.

The headset was inside it.

How was this possible? Really, I didn't know. Even if I was that drunk, I would remember coming downstairs to put a fucking VR headset into the refrigerator for some reason.

I was creeped out, so I threw away the headset. Just put it in the apartment recycling bin.

Other than that, the day was pretty normal.

The next day, when I woke up and opened my eyes, everything was black.

Then a shrieking sound came out, and the haunting little girl appeared before my eyes.

Scared senseless, I fell off my bed, bashing my head into my desk. I remember trying to rip off the headset, trying to fight off the girl.

And then I woke up in a hospital.

I was told by my parents that they found me bleeding on the floor.

I was given some time before collecting myself before heading off for a brain scan.

I said to myself that it was all over, there are people with me and I'm safe. After all, I was in a hospital with hundreds of medical personnel. More importantly, my family was by me.

It was one of those scans where you go into a tunnel of machinery to scan your brain.

I headed into the tube, lying down.

There was a monitor in front of me that showed some TV and random content for brain stimulation and boredom.

After a few minutes into the test, the screen blacked out.

The little girl appeared.

It's not over.
