Cold Brew French Press Recipe
Need:
1 French Press (1 L) – I’m going off my Bodum which is pretty much 1 L
55.7 – 64 g of coffee – I recommend the higher end
1 coffee grinder (if coffee is not ground yet)
4 cups of cold, filtered water
1 plastic spoon (for stirring and not cracking a glass French Press)
1 refrigerator
Note: Please check your refrigerator to make sure it can fit your French Press, with the lid on, and the “plunger” (hate that term, I’ll call it the coffee pole) up. Repeat, make sure you can fit the whole thing with the coffee pole up! If not, adjust your shelves, or you may need to use less coffee
Instructions: If your coffee is not yet ground, then grind it using medium to fine settings. Try not to overgrind, but it’s not really a big deal since you’re not using hot water. Feel free to use old coffee that you may have deemed unworthy for hot brew (just avoid Folger’s and the likes, as always!)
Pour the ground coffee into the French press
Pour in the 4 cups of cold, filtered water
Stir using the plastic spoon
Place the lid back on your French Press, being sure not to push the coffee pole (the coffee pole should be extended the entire time while in the refrigerator)
Let sit for 12 to 24 hours. The longer you wait, the stronger your coffee may become, within the limits of science (I usually let mine steep for 12 hours because I make it at night like to drink it about 12 hours later)
Remove from refrigerator.
Slowly press coffee pole down. Try not to stir up the grounds below the press filter. Take 30 seconds to press down the grounds, if needed.
Coffee is ready! Pour over a few ice cubes. Big ice cubes are recommended, and pretty cool. Use cream if you want. The end result is a bit “syrupy”, so always swirl the bottom of the vessel when you’re at the final drops.
Last thing, it should last a few days if sealed properly. I usually bottle it in a clean tinted 64 oz beer growler (this recipe will fill it about half way).
Cheers!
